Hidden Lake Overlook at Sunset

Distance from Glamping Tent to the Trailhead: About 1 hour (at non-peak times)

Glacier National Park Hiking and Glamping

One of the most popular trails in Glacier National Park is Hidden Lake Overlook... and for a great reason too! The trailhead is at the Logan's Pass Visitor center, situated at the highest point on the historic Going to the Sun Road, right on the Continental Divide. The hike is a short one clocking in at 2.7 miles roundtrip, so it appeals to a wide audience. Most of the hike is also situated on a boardwalk which also appeals to the more novice hiker. One thing to note is the trail does gain 540 feet in 1.35 miles at an already high elevation, so it may not be for the faint hearted.

Because this trail is so popular, one tip we recommend to our guests is heading there for sunset. Not only do you avoid most of the crowds on the trail and on the road, but it is also the most beautiful time to go. The sunset paints the sky in amazing colors the wildlife is more active! (BRING BEARSPRAY! We almost always see a mountain goat, have seen multiple grizzly, and even have seen a grizzly chasing a mountain goat.)

Glamping near Glacier National Park

If you finish the trail early and still have an hour or two before it gets dark, perhaps head out for a quick out and back hike on the Highline trail as well. More on that trail in a seporate blog but if you go 15 minutes into the trail, you will see expansive views of the McDonald Valley. Here is a quick shot from a sunset hike (about 45 minutes round trip) on the Highline. We were planning on heading up to Logan's Pass but there was an aggressive bear on the trail so we turned around an did this instead.

Lastly, because of the elevation, this trail can still in covered in snow until Late July. This picture is on July 4th weekend where we had to cross multiple snowfields to get to the overlook!
